Deep Freeze (video still), 2007
Acting quickly upon the impulse to follow an unformed branch of thought- Deep Freeze simply explores an opened freezer with a camera. In retrospect, acting quickly meant a freedom from any predetermination of the outcome of this impulse. Once engaged, thoughts and actions would be allowed to develop together and spontaneously.
The camera gradually takes on the identity of a free climber descending through a cavern of frozen food, making way toward the freezer’s questionable depths. As the climber works his way down, he eventually finds himself trapped in a frozen image.
